CCR

Here's my CCR. I gotta say that I HATE talking to the camera... I get super shy and nervous soI'm sorry that you have to sit through it. I also talked for like 30 minutes I'M NOT KIDDING so editing was a pain and I had to cut out a lot of things which is why there's so many cuts..

CCR!

HERE IT IS

ONE LAST TIME

Hey! This is it! I'm done with all the components of this project. It has been a crazy ride but I hope you like what you see. I learned how difficult it can be to put an idea to life but I also learned how to understand myself better. My next posts will include the CCR, website, postcard and short film... Enjoy!

Film Day Anecdotes

I just remembered that I haven't talked about about the "party" scene so I think I should explain some stuff. I knew I wanted to have a party scene in my denial phase because teenagers have the common misconception that drinking can take away the pain for just one night and end up doing stupid things, like calling the person, if it applies. I think that explains perfectly the irrational thinking one goes through when you're in denial of a situation. You think There must be something you can do, and end up loosing your pride in between.
The easiest thing to do would have been to fake a party at my house and invite friends over. My problem was that my neighborhood is super picky with people parking outside in the streets; The cars must be in you designated driveway. So if I'm going to "throw a party" people would obviously have to park somewhere. I asked my friends if they carpool but the logistic was getting to complicated. I didn't want to ask my friends to throw a random party for my film so I asked Albany to stay over at my house this weekend and we patiently waited for party to come up. We waited..... and waiter.... and waited. This day WESTON decides to be even MORE boring than it already is and ruin my plans, as  usual. I started freaking out until aI came up with this weird idea. I looked for +18 clubs near me and found one like an hour away. So I didn't think it too much and drove all the way there and when we got there the place was EMPTY. We took this to our advantage to film without getting interrupted and then we waited to people to get there. Who like 6 people showed up (lol) we got to the "crowd" and filmed closer shots to seem like there was a lot of poplin there. In one of the scene where she's drinking in the bathroom, we asked for a cup of water and filmed with that. It looks SO fake but can we pretend like it is something else? Ok thank you.
Overall, it was a reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally weird night, definitely not my type of stuff, but you gotta do what you gotta do. At least I have some funny memories to share...

Filming Day Two

I talked in one of my previous blogs that I didn't like the way my film came out with the footage I had, so I analyzed everything that I didn't't like to re-fillm this weekend and get it right this time. First of all I felt like I didn't film enough so I didn't have a variety of shots to choose from which was a problem because a couple of my scenes were too shaky. This time I filmed quite a lot and made sure to see the video after shooting it to make sure everything looked fine before moving on to the next scene. I also added a couple new scenes because I felt something was just missing. Some of the things that happened in my film didn't have an action before it happened so this weekend I filmed scenes that are nor as relevant to the plot but helped create that foundation so everything flows smooth. For example, I shot a scene of the couple watching TV. It seems irrelevant but I felt like having this scene would help the story to develop better. I might not use this scene but at least I know I have it.
The most important thing that I changed was the structure of the storytelling. I wanted to do a voiceover throughout the whole piece but I was too skeptical about it because I didn't want  it -to be to "spoon-fed" to the audience. I also didn't want to make it too cheesy so I was going through a crisis. Albany was the one who actually came up with the idea WHILE we were filming so it was very spontaneous. One of the walls in my room is a chalkboard where I just draw or write stuff down. She told me that I could use it somehow to explain certain things in case the audience didn't catch it. So what I decided to do was a calendar where Lia keeps how she feels everyday until she realizes that tangerine is indeed what she wants to achieve and writes it big one the wall. In case you don't understand what I'm talking about, I'm going to. include a behind-the-scenes in my next post so you can visualize it a little bit better.
So now, the majority of the piece will not have a voiceover just to let the visuals speak for themselves. However, I know that what "tangerine" actually means is too hard to understand just by visuals so here's where I was having my problem. But Albany came with this other idea of having a phone call as my voiceover that explains everything a little bit better. At first I thought the idea was dumb but when I really thought about it, it didn't seem too bad. So for the "orange" section of my film, I'm going to add a voiceover and edit it as a phone call where she just explains how she's feeling . While this happens she's having flashbacks, which are the chalkboard scenes. I know it sounds a bit confusing butI'm going to add an updated storyline so you can follow what I'm saying.
Overall, I think the filming day came out pretty well. I would have liked to film more than I did but Albany had to go at a certain time because she lives far away and that did limit me at some points but with the time I had I think it was the best I could have done. I thought it was a productive day where I solved many of my problems so as o snow, I'm happy with the outcome. Now I just have to edit the piece and I'll be down to move forward with the CCR :)

New Postcard

I fixed the postcard because I didn't completely like it, the title was placed awkwardly... This time, I centered it and played with the color.

For the back I was thinking on inverting the colors, where there's orange change it to the landscape and viceversa:

But, when I tried to put the text it wasn't working to I stretched out that idea and just used the landscape and lower the opacity. I know it's no masterpiece but it gets the work done.

Untitled #2

I will summarize what happened this last week.
I went on a road trip with my family to Gainesville, St. Agustin, Atlanta and Savannah. Here are some cool pictures I took:

During the looooooong car rides I finished editing what I had filmed so far and to be honest... I don't like it. I didn't film enough to have a variety of shots to choose from so I was obliged use the ones that I wasn't too happy with.
Have you ever had an idea that looks great in your mind but when you actually do it, it turns out COMPLETELY DIFFERENT? Well that happened to me... I was actually so sad because I started to not like my idea and feel like I couldn't get my message across. It's obviously too late to change everything now so I just need to stay positive and try again. I already scheduled another day of shooting for this weekend and I'll try to edit it completely as soon as I can.

What I want to do this week:

- Finish the website
- Finish the back of the postcard
- Analyze what I didn't like, how to fix it and make a new storyboard
